Empowerment Workshops

MDS is dedicated to promoting growth and development in young individuals at every stage of their journey. To support young women aged 14 to 17 who are not eligible for one-on-one mentoring, MDS launched empowerment workshops (online) designed to meet their unique needs.

These workshops provide a safe, nurturing environment where participants gain essential life skills, build confidence, and develop the tools necessary for personal growth and devlopment. Through a diverse range of interactive sessions, they are empowered to explore topics such as self-esteem, resilience, and goal-setting. Additionally, the participants engage in group discussions and hands-on activities that encourage collaboration and peer support.

The program runs with the partner school's academic calendar.

✨ IWD Event- Give to Gain: ✨

On March 11, we marked International Women’s Day with an empowering virtual event for 53 high school girls from 4 schools across Jamaica, supported by 12 mentors.

The session opened with an introduction to International Women’s Day by Ronke Adebayo, grounding participants in the global importance of women’s leadership and equality. A powerful highlight followed with MDS Ambassador Paula McDonald MBE, who shared her lived experiences growing up as a Black girl and her journey into leadership.

Participants then engaged in small-group breakout sessions focused on:

  • Practical skills for navigating future paths
  • Confidence-building
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Identity and values exploration

Participant feedbacks:

  • " I learned to plant seeds today, grow legacy tomorrow"
  • " My ket takeaway is-Stand confident in your own skin, support women and you will gain "
